Hail Geography

Geographic Numbers:
  • Hail region is in the northern west of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia near the vertical line 30/41 and horizontal line 27/32 .
  • The total size is about 118232 Km squared.
  • The population of the area is about 700.000 of people.
  • Hail is about 600 Km far away from Riyadh, 450 Km from Al-Madina Al-Monawara, 650 Km from Tabuk and 400 Km the pipe line.
  • Hail is about 915 meters high of the sea level surface.
  • The length of Aja mountains is about 100 Km and the its wide is about 25 to 30 Km. The highest top is about 1350 Km.Salma mountain's length is about 60 Km, width is 13 Km and the highest top is about 1200 meter high of the sea level surface. 


The administrative area located in the western north of Saudi Arabia is as a form of a heart its base in the west while its two heads are in the east. Al-Madina Al-Monawara region borders comes after Hail region in the west as well as Tabuk region. In the north, Al-Jouf and Al-Hodod Al-Shamaliya ( Northern Borders ) region while in the south and east comes Al-Qassim Administrative area. Hail region extends from Al-Saerra village in the east to Al-Hait town and beyond Al-Shamlly in the west. From the northern borders of Al-Nofood desert in the north until Al-Qassim – Al-Madina road in the south with total area of 200.000 Km squared. Hail town stretches on the slops of Aja in the northern east area and extends to the east until Al-Ader'a valley which was called Al-Dejan valley. In the past it was called Hail valley which the town got its recent name. It was called the village in the far past when "Imre'o Al-qaiss" passed by it. Hail means the valley which the town was called by its name later. The town is 60 Km far from Salma mountains to the east with tendency towards the south. It is located near the edge of Al-Nofood desert which is 35 Km far from it. The position of Hail gave it many advantages such as the beautiful places between mountains in east and west. Also the golden sand in the north and the land which is stretched in the south in addition to other mountains and black hills around it.

The Form of the surface

Hail has various constitutions of surface, high mountains, hills, valleys and sand accumulations. Hail has fertile agricultural land for farming and grass for sheep. All these natural places gave Hail many advantages. The most famous mountains round Hail location are Aja mountain which Hail on the northern east of it and Salma mountain in the east turns to the south of Hail in about 60 Km. These two mountains are Tai mountains. Romman mountain comes after them. These three mountains are graneet and black fire rocks. Romman mountains is 60 Km in the south of Hail. Al-Huddn mountains is also in the south of black fire rocks and it is considered as the extension of Aja mountain in the south that turns to the west. A group of mountains are west of Aja; the most famous one is Mettala mountain 90 Km in the west of Hail. After that there is Haboran mountain 160 Km from Hail to the west turns to Al-Mahjar mountain 170 Km and Arnan mountain 190 Km. In the north Um Salman mountain is the most famous near Jubbah and it is 103 Km far away from Hail. Al-Twak ( Al-Khefaf ) mountain in the past near Al-Khettah town and it is 51 Km from Hail. The nearest mountain to the city is Al-Samra mountain. Fatak mountain which is about 30 Km to the east and to the north of it there are Jeldiah mountain 25 Km and Jannean 40 Km. To the southern east there are Mellaha, Al-Shaera mountain, Al-Rayan, Al-Riyadh, Ghosol and Habbashy mountain near Sameera 170 Km. Al-Alam mountain near Al-Holefa 190 Km. These mountains are different kinds kinds of red, black, yellow graneet with sandy brown and the black bazealt in addition to the blue solid rocks. There are many valleys which slop from west to the east and from south west to the eastern north and from the northern west to the western south. The biggest valley is Al-Remah valley, the branches are Al-Shoubah valley, Al-Talbut valley, Al-Hefin valley and Al-Rahba valley. In the upper part Al-Darbah valley, Al-Rat valley and Al-Aderea valley which crosses Hail town. Al-Esh and Al-Har which come from south to the north. In thesemountains, there are two kinds of water, underground water and water near the surface of land near the mountains or inside them such as Arabian armor but the deep underground water supply agricultural areas in the northern west area from Al-Khettah to Salma mountain in the east until Al-Qassim region borders.
